Mythical Infrastructuring

Abstract The very nature of large-scale infrastructure projects—long design and construction periods, high investment, impact on social natural spaces—makes them prone to socioecological technical conflicts. These conflicts materialize in stories that become keystones the making infrastructure. In this article, we analyze infrastructuring power by drawing case Chacao Bridge Chiloé Island southern Chile, a controversial project has been over last six decades. We argue “absence” bridge creates space for production island's inherited past imagined future keeps recurring growing form myths. Thus, propose concept “mythical infrastructuring” capture process. then conclude arguing develops its presence landscape culture contradictory ways cannot be solved technically or symbolically.
